Dark grounds with dense multicolor figures hide traffic lanes, spilled soda and popcorn crumbs in a room where the lights go down and nobody sees the floor until they do. Most patterns come in several color themes, so you can pull the ground color toward your seating instead of designing the room around the floor.

Measure wall to wall, then add for pattern repeat and seam allowance, since patterned carpet has to line up across a seam the way wallpaper does.
